It's my instinct that the organizations who can push beyond simple *literacy*, however, that will truly succeed which is what inspired the distinction I explore with the concept of **data fluency.** ## Definition --- Data fluency is distinct from data literacy. Literacy is binary (you're literate or you're not). Fluency is developmental, contextual, and practice-based—it emerges over time in a safe culture where questioning is encouraged. **Key distinction:** - **Literacy** = Can read a dashboard, understand a chart, identify data in the flow of work. - **Fluency** = Senses which questions data asks, recognizes when correlation hides causation gaps, translates findings for different audiences, knows when to question assumptions ## Why It Matters --- You can't mandate fluency like training.
